How do you consume Salvia Divinorum?

Most psychonauts consider Salvia to be a kind of wild card among natural psychedelics.

We therefore recommend using it for microdosing purposes. You can do this by adding 0.2-0.5g of dry salvia to your breakfast.
This gives you subtle, sub-perceptual effects without impairing your day-to-day.

Psychedelic use of salvia

While we would recommend you use Salvia only for microdosing, we don’t expect that everyone will.

It is important to note that the strength of the salvia herb depends greatly on its origin. Since we source ours from a biological outdoor growth source, our salvia is getting a lot of natural sunlight. This may make it a good deal stronger than what you might find at many other shops, so be cautious with large doses! Undershooting is always better than overshooting!!

“Typical” dose recommendations depend on how you consume your salvia, by eating or smoking.

The duration and to a degree, the intensity of its effects depends on how you take in the herb.

Chewing the leaves or making salvia tea

Ingested orally, the effects of Salvia take a while to develop and, in sensitive users, may last up to 3 hours.

Light: 2g dried leaves*
Common: 6g dried leaves*
Strong: 10g dried leaves*

Onset : 10-20 minutes
Duration : 30-90 minutes
Normal After Effects : 30-120 minutes

Smoking Salvia Divinorum

The dried salvia leaves can also be smoked, which results in much shorter duration of the effects that also kick in faster.

Light: 0.25g*
Common: 0.5g*
Strong: 0.75g*

Onset : 30-180 seconds
Duration : 5-30 minutes
Normal After Effects : 30-60 minutes

*Again, all these are “standard” times you will find on sources like Erowid.com for average strength salvia.
This data is only for orientation to let you know how much salvia you might need for a given intention.
Be sure to do your own research before embarking on an experience!

Common effects

The effects of Salvia Divinorum are often said to be difficult to compare to those of other psychedelics.
Some of its most commonly reported effects are:

  • strong changes of perception
  • emotional outbreaks, especially bursts of laughter
  • A sense of peace, deep understanding and unity
  • Loss of physical coordination
  • Dreamlike states of consciousness

Keep in mind: Never embark on a psychedelic experience in an unsafe environment.

Salvia Divinorum is a new product for us. Our focus has always been magic truffles.

Still at the core, preparation and the correct mindset have the same requirements as they do with magic truffles. More about this, check our article Set and Setting of a Psychedelic Experience
