Stages of cannabis growth
1) Germination: 3–10 days
2) Seedling: 2–3 weeks
3) Vegetative: 3–12 weeks
4) Flowering: 8–11 weeks
Planting the seeds
- Place the seeds on the potting compost and cover them lightly to keep them
moist.- Once your seed has germinated, keep the compost moist, repot if necessary, and familiarise yourself with the nutritional requirements of cannabis plants for best results. (see below)
– Once the seed has germinated, you’ll need to adjust the light cycles so that it grows to the desired height.
Storage:
- Store the seeds in a cool, dark and dry place until sowing.
Nutrient requirements of cannabis plants
For optimal growth of your cannabis, it is important that the soil’s pH level is between 6 and 7. Deviating from this range may not visibly harm the plants, but it can affect the yield.
Start with soil that has a low nutrient concentration for the seeds.
During the vegetative phase, you should
use a nutrient solution with a high nitrogen content, for example in a ratio of 3-1-2 (N-P-K). During the flowering stage, use a nutrient solution with a lower nitrogen content and a ratio of approximately 1-3-4 (N-P-K).
Best practices for growing cannabis
Keep an eye on your plants!
Just by looking at the plant, you can tell most of what you need to know. Is the soil sufficiently moist? Is your plant free from pests? Are the leaves a lush green and uniform in appearance?
If your plant is any colour other than a rich, deep green, check the table in the gallery to see which nutrient deficiency the discolouration might indicate.
To really understand your plant’s growing conditions, you should carry out a soil pH test.
It’s important to rinse the plants with clean water every few weeks to prevent nutrient build-up and avoid nutrient deficiencies. Keep a close eye on the plants for signs of nutrient deficiency or excess, and adjust the nutrient levels accordingly.
Chances are your local grow shop will have exactly what you need.
