Frequently asked questions

How long do I need to dry mushrooms for?

dry mushrooms for 2–7 days

depending on room temperature and humidity.

Dry them until they snap like twigs.

Dry them until they crumble like crackers.

Dry your mushrooms thoroughly!

😉

That way, they’ll retain their potency for as long as possible.

Is the mat a fire hazard?

No, the mat never gets hotter than 45°C.

If you’re going on a 6-week holiday, don’t leave it plugged in. But a few days are no problem.

Can you dry mushrooms in the oven?

Drying magic mushrooms in the oven is a risky business.

Often, 50°C on the dial is actually closer to 85°C.

They tend to overheat very quickly, don’t get enough air and start to ‘cook’.

Is this better than a fruit dryer?

Fruit dehydrators are brilliant!

They’re also noisy, use a lot of electricity and tend to break after a few months’ use.

Heat mats are cheaper and more durable, but they take longer to dry mushrooms completely.
