Law
Legal status
Is it legal to order your products?
Yes.
ProviThor BV is a legally registered company in the Netherlands, and all the products we sell are legal in the Netherlands and, consequently, throughout the entire EU single market.
The EU’s anti-geo-discrimination regulation requires us to offer and sell the same product at the same price to all EU citizens without distinction. No EU country has officially rejected our products, and each country receives tax revenue for all products delivered into its territory.
Taxation implies legality. There is NO illegal product that is taxed by the government. You can read more about why magic truffles are legal and look up ‘EU single market’ to understand what freedom of trade entails.
However, this does not absolve you of the responsibility to check your own country’s legislation and see if there may be laws that contradict the EU single market. This is not supposed to happen, but it might give customs a reason to intercept and destroy your parcel.
ProviThor B.V. accepts no liability for any damage incurred as a result of such conflicting laws or misunderstandings.
(For more information, see our Terms & Conditions)
Why are magic truffles legal in Europe?
Magic truffles are living organisms, NOT a pure chemical substance.
The first step towards understanding the legal situation is to realise that psilocybin is an illegal substance in the Netherlands, as it is in most other countries. Meanwhile, magic truffles are freely produced and taxed there.
They have a VERY different legal status to cannabis, which is ‘tolerated’ for sale in small quantities through registered coffee shops. It is NOT legal to produce cannabis in the Netherlands, whereas magic truffles are legally produced and sold there.
As long as your country does not explicitly state that it excludes magic truffles from its market, it has no grounds on which to prevent you from ordering from a legal Dutch business.

Why can't I buy mushrooms directly?
Magic mushrooms are NOT a legal product in the Netherlands, where our company is based. Their sale was banned in 2007, whilst truffles were not affected by that same law and were later declared a luxury food.
You can grow your own mushrooms, but you are not allowed to buy or sell them directly (in most countries).

We ship tax-free to all countries outside the EU.
Your national customs authority may charge duties. To avoid this, choose the cheap and slow delivery option, or be prepared to pay import duties on the full invoice amount as determined by your local customs authorities.
The only country in the world with very strict customs regulations that can result in significant financial losses is Norway. If you wish to place an order from Norway, please contact us before placing your order.
What are the delivery options?
When you place your order, you will be asked to choose between:
- Express delivery (UPS)
- Standard delivery (DPD)
- Standard delivery (Asendia)
- Collection from our office in Volkel, NL
For a full breakdown of these options, please see:
Do I have to pay extra for particularly discreet delivery?
No, all our parcels are dispatched discreetly.
We understand the importance of discreet shipping.
This means there is no information, no advertising and no invoice inside or on the parcel or the products. This helps them clear customs smoothly.
Within the EU, all our parcels arrive safely.
Outside the EU, express shipments must be accompanied by an invoice.
We cannot guarantee the actions of customs authorities and can only reship lost parcels that were sent with track & trace.
We ship in a discreet but fully legal manner and treat all customers equally. ProviThor is a legitimate business and does not engage in any form of ‘smuggling’ or attempts to do so. Our parcels reach our customers exactly as we dispatch them, and we do not break any laws or regulations in the process.
We successfully ship to the EU, the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Iraq and Iceland – to name but a few.
How long does delivery take?
This depends on the destination and the chosen or available delivery method.
Generally speaking:
EU Express: 1–4 working days (1–2 to major countries and cities; 4 for Cyprus, Malta, Greece, rural areas in Spain, and so on)
; EU Fast: (not available to all destinations within the EU): 2–8 working days
EU Slow: 5–15 working days
USA: only slow delivery is available at present: 5–20 working days
The rest of the world: usually between 10 and 20 working days

What is the difference between Classic and 100% Mycelium grow kits?
Classic and 100% Mycelium grow kits are produced by different manufacturers.
100% Mycelium kits are extremely nutrient-dense and have no top layer. They do not require watering.
Their grow bag is perforated and cannot retain water.
Classic grow kits are slightly cheaper, as they contain a layer of ‘topsoil’ that is not colonised by mycelium. They require watering before use, and you must keep the grow bag moist throughout the growing process.
Their grow bags are lined with HEPA filters.
How can I get a growth guarantee for my mushrooms?
Does ProviThor ship magic mushrooms?
No.
Sadly, magic mushrooms were banned in the Netherlands in 2007.
You can buy magic mushroom growing kits, and we’d like to encourage everyone to learn how to grow their own mushrooms. It’s fun to watch them grow and build a connection with them.
If you buy ‘magic mushrooms’ on the black market (e.g. on a street corner), they might be of poor quality or even laced with something harmful!
truffles
Magic Truffles
What is the difference between truffles and mushrooms?
There are essentially three differences:
1. Magic truffles have been officially legalised as a luxury food – in stark contrast to magic mushrooms.
2. Magic truffles are a bit like the ‘little brothers and sisters’ of magic mushrooms, very similar in effect and potency. Shops that claim one type is very strong and the other weak are simply using marketing tactics and lying for profit. This is true of magic mushrooms, but not of magic truffles.
3. Truffle cells are hard and resilient, whilst mushroom cells are soft and release their active compounds easily. This means that magic truffles are particularly well-suited to microdosing, whilst high dosing requires more effort to consume; conversely, magic mushrooms are particularly easy to use for high dosing, whilst microdosing requires more effort.
However, both can be used for both microdosing and high dosing.
Which truffle strain is the strongest?
There is almost NO difference in the potency of magic truffle strains.
They have been sold under different names and descriptions for decades, which has led to certain self-fulfilling expectations. In reality, the main difference lies in how long they have been growing.
Thor/Hollandia and Odin/Atlantis are the varieties with the longest growth periods.
